Muckrackers

Progressive Era: Period of social activism and political reform in he United States that flourishes from the 1890s to the 1920s.
Muckraker:  reform-minded journalists who wrote largely for all popular magazines and continued a tradition of investigative journalism reporting.


Lincoln Steffens 
                                     His main focus was on topics that were no written about before. His articles                                       exposed the municipal corruptions, corporate monopolies, and political machine                                   The writings that he did was "The Shame of the cities. which it lead him to do                                       investigation into state politicians, which was the novel "The struggle for Self Government"

Ida Minerva Tarbell 
                                      His main focus was her investigation of the American Industry. Her famous                                         work was published in McClures' magazine. one article was on "The Standard                                       Oil Company", which was the rise of a business monopoly  and the unfair                                               practices.
Gustavus Myers   
                                        He joined the Populist Party and was a member of the Social Reform Club                                           of the socialist party. His main focus was in progressive causes, mainly on the                                        municipal corruption. One of his most known work was "History of                                                      American Fortunes" which exposed the evils of the unfettered capitalism.
                                       
                                                                    Gustavus Myers David Graham Philips 
                                       His main focus was writing articles exposing corruption in the U.S. One of                                             his famous work was Cosmopolitan magazine. They were based on the deals                                          with corruptive influences in society and the general social problems.

Upton Sinclair     
                                        His main focus was to uncover the harmful effects of capitalism economic                                              pressure on institutions of learning and culture. One of his famous work                                                  was "The Jungle" which it led to reform federal food inspection laws.
